koats for kids

Koats for Kids is a community-wide effort to provide coats for families in Dane and Jefferson Counties. For the past 35 years, this coat drive has helped area families facing financial hardships by providing them with coats and other winter gear.

Since the program’s inception in 1986, Koats for Kids has collected, cleaned and distributed 323,761 coats to those of need in Dane County! This year, we’re excited to be able to serve Jefferson county as well.

This year's goal: 10,000 coats

Coat collection will begin on September 14, 2020. Just stop by any Klinke Cleaners location in Dane County and drop off your unneeded winter coats, scarves, hats, gloves and mittens. Here’s a list of all Dane County locations.

Dane County coat distribution will begin on October 23 and run until October 31st at 1856 Wright Street in Madison. We will be open to the public 12 PM to 8 PM.

Jefferson County distribution is being held in three cities across two days.

  • Saturday, November 7
    • Watertown’s Riverside Park from 10 AM to 1 PM
    • Lake Mills’ Rotary Park from 3 PM to 7 PM.
  • Sunday, November 8
    • Jefferson’s Fair Park from 12 PM to 3 PM. We are partnering with Jefferson County Public Health to provide flu shots to minors for free and adults for $35. All minors will need a legal guardian to sign their waver.

Questions, extra donations, and group volunteer signup inquiries can be sent to Oliver Soler at olivers@cacscw.org

We’re grateful to the sponsors who make this happen: Klinke Cleaners, Lake Mills Cleaners, Magic 98, News 3 Now, Madison Top, and McAllen Properties.

You do not need an ID or appointment. We will be limiting the number of shoppers in the building at one time so you might need to wait in line for a couple minutes. Please limit the number of people who come to pick up coats and we ask that you avoid trying on a coat that you do not intend on taking home. Before shopping you will be asked to go through an intake process where we collect basic contact information and ask questions to determine if you may need additional support.

Donations of new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and snow pants are gratefully accepted. Financial donations are welcome too!

Klinke Cleaners is accepting donations until 10/10. If you would like to donate after this date please email olivers@cacscw.org

The application can be found here

Health and safety are the greatest priorities at this event. We have created opportunities to get involved before we open to the public, made roles that allow for extra flexibility and social distancing once we open, as well as gone above and beyond in our acquisition of protective equipment and disinfectant supplies.

Individuals who are interested should fill out our quick application, a welcome email will then be sent with scheduling information, wavers, and information about a background check.

Questions and group sign ups should be directed to Oliver Soler at olivers@cacscw.org

Yes! Event sponsors allow us to keep the lights on and the program running year to year. Please email Amber Duddy, Executive Director, to let us know you’d like to be involved as a sponsor.
