CAC Thanks Dane County for their Continued Support to the Community

CAC graciously receives large funding support in recent budget plan to help boost local food banks and pantries for Dane County

Madison, Wis. – The Community Action Coalition For South Central Wisconsin (CAC) is proud to announce it has received a $530,844 contribution from the Dane County Executive’s Office. The funding is part of the county’s efforts to award $2 million in local emergency food pantry assistance grants, as well as sustain the successes of Farm to Foodbank in 2023 with a $6 million budget plan. CAC has been a leader in local food security efforts for over five decades. As the only zero cost food bank in Dane County, we see firsthand how many families struggle to make ends meet every month. In 2022 alone, CAC’s food bank provided food to 42,227 individuals across Dane, Jefferson and Waukesha Counties.

The County Executive’s Office’s decision is particularly significant since it comes at a critical time when families are about to lose temporary increases to federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, also known as FoodShare in Wisconsin. These benefits were put in place to assist families during the pandemic but are set to expire at the end of February, with many seniors seeing their benefits decrease from $281 a month to only $23 a month. With this grant, CAC can continue its efforts to help individuals and families in need access the essential foods they require to get by.

In 2022, CAC served 88,000 individuals through our programs and services, over 42,000 individuals through the Food Bank/TEFAP, and were able to serve over 165,000 children through grant funding provided by the Henry J. Predolin Foundation. We could not have accomplished these milestones without the support of Dane County and our partners.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in need in our community and help ensure that every family has food on their tables.
