Celebrate National Farmers Market Week with CAC’s Double Dollars Program
August 6, 2024
Farmers markets are transforming the way we eat, shop, and connect with our communities, and there’s no better time to celebrate their impact than during National Farmers Market Week. Here at Community Action Coalition (CAC), we’re proud to support local farmers and families through our Double Dollars program, which operates at nine participating Dane County farmers markets. Through this initiative, we provide $20 to those who receive SNAP benefits, helping to make fresh, local food attainable to everyone in our community.
Farmers markets are more than just places to buy food—they are vital spaces for learning, growth, and connection. At CAC, we see how these markets foster a sense of community, offering opportunities for neighbors to come together, exchange recipes, share stories, and build lasting relationships. This National Farmers Market Week, we encourage you to explore your local market, participate in the programs they offer, and see firsthand how farmers markets are changing the way we live.
But remember, Farmers Markets Don’t Just Happen! Behind every vibrant market is a dedicated team of organizers, farmers, and volunteers who work tirelessly to create a welcoming space for all. From setting up stalls to organizing special events, their efforts ensure that our markets are ready to serve the community week after week. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the hard work that goes into making these markets a success and recognize the importance of supporting local food systems.
Join us in celebrating National Farmers Market Week by visiting one of our nine participating markets, using your Double Dollars, and connecting with the incredible people who make it all possible. Together, we can continue to build a stronger, healthier community.
