CAC and Foodshed Partnership Awarded Wisconsin DATCP Infrastructure Grant
January 6, 2025
In 2024, Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin (CAC) joined forces with REAP Food Group, Pasture and Plenty, and FairShare CSA Coalition to launch a transformative project for Dane, Jefferson, and Waukesha counties. This initiative, now known as the Foodshed Partnership, worked tirelessly to secure funding through the USDA’s Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) program. Today, we’re thrilled to announce that this critical funding has been awarded, bringing the Foodshed Partnership one step closer to reality!
Operating from CAC’s 10,000 square foot warehouse in Madison, WI, the Foodshed Partnership will strengthen food access and enhance the local food system. With a focus on supporting underserved farmers, it promises a lasting impact across the region by diversifying products, creating good jobs, and reducing food waste. At full capacity, the facility will contribute 350,000 pounds of local food annually and introduce 51 new value-added products, including frozen fruits and vegetables, purees, and ready-to-eat vegetarian meals like soups and stir-fry blends.
Within three years, the facility is projected to achieve full operational capacity, becoming financially sustainable with an estimated annual economic impact of over $2.47 million. These funds will ensure continued growth, support for local farmers, and improved food security throughout our community.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the USDA and WI DATCP for their support, as well as to our grant writers and partners—REAP Food Group, Pasture and Plenty, and FairShare CSA Coalition—whose dedication and collaboration have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. Together, we’re building a more resilient and equitable food system for Wisconsin.
