Informational Meeting and Volunteer Training for Affordable Housing in Waukesha County

In an effort to gain public recognition and community support about the impact that limited affordable housing is having on Waukesha County citizens, CAC and The Waukesha County Affordable Housing Task Force are holding an informational session and volunteer training opportunity.

When: March 18, 2010
Where: Hope Center in Waukesha
Time: 4:00 p.m.

This session is free. Waukesha County volunteers are needed to help organize materials, make phone calls, distribute petitions, and promote the work of this community campaign.

Thanksgiving Basket Program
CAC will distribute 3,500 Thanksgiving baskets in partnership with United Way 2-1-1 and 19 food pantries in the Dane County Food Pantry Network.   We need volunteers to help distribute the baskets on November 25, 2009 at CAC.  For more information on how you can help, contact Paula Payton, or call at 608-246-4730 x 224.

Koats for Kids - Jefferson County
Jefferson County Koats for Kids will be held at the Jefferson Public Library, 321 South Main, on  October 29 - October 31, 2009, and at the CAC Office, 114 East Main, on November 4 - November 7, 2009. Thanksgiving on the Mayflower
CAC is teaming up with 94.9 WOLX for Thanksgiving on the Mayflower !  Our goal is to collect over 20,000 lbs of food - enough to fill a Mayflower truck.  94.9 will be broadcasting from the Meriter Home Health Store parking lot, (2180 West Beltline) from November 9 -13., 2009  Area schools have a change to compete for up to $1,000 - the top three schools with the highest poundage of food win! All donations go to local area food pantries. The Red & White Hunger Fight
Join the largest food drive in UW history!  Pitch in and help make a difference this Thanksgiving by helping to collect food (collection runs from October 8-29, 2009) or volunteer to sort food on November 10th! For more information see our Food Security Program News & Events page.

7th Annual Community Gardens Bike Tour

August 29, 2009

9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

 

Join Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, CAC and the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin on a gardener led tour of four of Madison's community gardens. This year we're starting at Hammersley Community Gardens (next to Falk Elementary School at 6120 Hammersley Road) and riding to Prairie Hills Community Garden, Meadowood Community Gardens, and ending at Orchard Ridge Community Gardens, where lunch will be provided.

 

If you relish a longer ride, meet us at 8:00 am at Stella's Bakery (corner of W. Mifflin and Carroll at the farmers' market) and we will make our way to Hammersley Community Gardens via the Southwest commuter bike trail. For further information contact Nicole Craigg at 246-4730, ext. 208.

 

 

Hanger Dance

Dust off your fedoras and get ready to Swing!  Re-live the 1940s by attending the Hanger Dance featuring big band music performed by Ladies Must Swing, a jazz band consisting of 18 energetic dames. Dance steps a little rusty? There will be group dance lessons available at 6:30 PM.

Flea Market & Silent Auction

The Fourth Annual La Fête de Marquette

Come and support CAC and Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center while immersing yourself in French culture and music at the Fourth Annual La Fête de Marquette.  This year we will be having a flea market, as well as our silent auction.  There is something for everyone at the flea market: antiques, holiday goodies, fine jewelry, knick-knacks, arts and crafts, and much more.  The silent auction offers a wide range of items to bid on from kitchen wares and appliances to wood floor refinishing to a three-hour ride in the one-and-only Weinermobile!  Stop by our tent for more details and the rules of engagement. All proceeds go to support the programs at Wil-Mar and CAC..

                                             2008 Year in Review                                             

National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive
We need individuals or groups to volunteer at the Westside (Struck St.), Capitol (East Washington), and Madison (Milwaukee St.) postal stations on May 10, 2008 for the National Association of Letter Carriers food drive. Many volunteers will be unloading mail vehicles that are stuffed with food donations. Sign up for one of two shifts: 100-430pm or 330-700pm. While other volunteers will help store bins of food in our warehouse for future sorting and distribution to food pantries. This is the single largest food drive in Dane County and the United States!


Citizen Advocacy Program Celebration

The Citizen Advocacy Program has a Program Celebration on Sunday, June 22nd at 12:30pm at Warner Park Shelter with a 3:30pm Mallard's Game to follow.  The event was open to program participants, staff, donors, stakeholders, advocates, board and council members.

17th Annual Food Share Day
Eat out at a participating restaurant on and at least 10% of profits support the Dane County Food Pantry Network (DCFPN). If your restaurant would like to participate next year, please contact Nichelle Nichols at 246-4730 ext. 216.

Koats for Kids, Dane County
This event was a great success again this year.  CAC distributed a total of 3,930 winter coats as well as hats, mittens, scarves
and jackets to 681 households. CAC wished to thank Klinke Cleaners, Channel 3 and Magic 98 for helping to make this event possible each year.

Community Gardens Bike Tour

CAC is sponsoring the 5th annual Community Gardens Bike Tour . Join Madison’s Mayor in touring Sheboygan, Midvale and Marlborough community gardens. Food Share Day

Participating restaurants in the Madison area will donate at least 10% of their sales on May 1, 2007.  This year's theme is "Celebrate Thanksgiving on May Day... and help CAC supply Thanksgiving baskets to hungry families".
