Housing Stability

In this program, you work with CAC staff to set up an individualized housing stability plan designed to help you find and sustain long-term housing.  If you’re under threat of eviction, CAC may be able to speak with your landlord on your behalf.  If you need different housing, CAC offers help finding an apartment, help with the cost of a security deposit – if you’re eligible and if funds are available – and coaching support with any concerns that might affect your long-term housing.

Early Childhood Zones

Offers intensive housing services in Madison’s Leopold and Mendota/Northside neighborhoods.  Services include short-term rent assistance and development of an individualized housing stability plan.  To be eligible, you would need to enroll in the Early Childhood Initiative of the Dane County Department of Human Services, and be referred for housing services by one of the Initiative’s home visiting programs.  Contact CAC for information about how to enroll in the Early Childhood Initiative.

Reducing School Mobility

Offers intensive housing services to families who have children enrolled in the Leopold, Mendota, Lake View, Gompers or Lindbergh schools.  Services include developing an individualized housing plan and financial assistance with issues that may be affecting a family’s housing stability.

Family Self Sufficiency

Family Self Sufficiency is a long-term program that’s designed to help families become more self-sufficient by increasing household income.  Usually, this means taking steps to prepare for and obtain a higher paying job.  Family Self Sufficiency is intended for families with limited household incomes who are also participating through the Dane County Housing Authority in a housing program commonly referred to as Section 8.

Permanent Supportive Housing

Permanent Supportive Housing is a multi-service program for those who meet the US Department of Housing & Urban Development’s definition of chronic homelessness.  In Dane County, a HUD-sponsored network called the Homeless Services Consortium maintains a priority list of those who meet the HUD definition.  When CAC has an opening in its Permanent Supportive Housing program, we refer to this list and reach out to those with the highest priority housing needs.

Tenant-Based Rental Assistance

Reaches out to those with limited incomes who are on the Homeless Services Consortium’s housing priority list to offer rent assistance for up to one year in Dane County, but outside of the City of Madison.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families

Offers a wide range of supportive services to veteran households with limited incomes, including services related to housing stability and both VA and non-VA services that support family well-being.  Housing stability includes preventing loss of current housing and, when needed, finding different housing that is safe and affordable.

Telecommunications Assistance

For eligible individuals and families with restricted incomes, offers a way to catch-up on past due telephone bills, including cell phone, or internet access bills that are threatening loss of service.  To receive financial assistance, you may be advised to change your service plan(s) to a more cost-effective option.

Housing List

CAC publishes a weekly housing list of apartments available in the Dane County area. View the list here.
